Stockholm Attacker A Failed Asylum Seeker: Swedish Prime Minister Says Enough Of Mass Immigration

BySwarajya Staff

The main suspect of Stockholm terror attack, that killed four people, has been identified as Rakhmat Akilov, a 39-year-old Uzbek national, and a failed asylum seeker.

Akilov had applied to Swedish authorities for residency in 2014, but had been informed in December 2016 that "he had four weeks to leave the country". He, however, did not leave, and in February, was put on the wanted list.

Investigation revealed that Akilov "exchanged WhatsApp messages with Islamic State (IS) supporters before and after the attack". His Facebook page, which has since been taken down, pointed to his links with extremists and featured at propaganda videos linked to IS.

Reacting to the developments , Swedish Prime Minister Stefan Löfven, who had earlier spoken out against mass influx of immigrants entering Sweden during the 2015 migrant crisis, said that “Sweden will never go back to the (mass migration) we had in autumn 2015, never. Everyone who has been denied a permit should return home. This makes me feel enormously frustrated. If you have been denied a visa you are supposed to leave the country."
