As the #MeTooIndia movement gathers momentum, turning the harassment spotlight on several celebs, the latest unearthing of sexual misconduct is directed at Varun Grover, the writer-comedian.
Varun Grover, an alumnus of Banaras Hindu University (BHU) is being levelled charges by another BHU student in a series of tweets, alleging that he tried to harass her on the pretext of working in a play.
Varun quickly dismissed it, denying all allegations and tweeting that he would soon issue a detailed statement. He later tweeted a detailed explanation, saying, "Here's my detailed statement about the completely fabricated, misleading, and defamatory allegations against me. Am absolutely willing to cooperate and clear my name. Let's not allow such agenda-driven tactics to derail this movement please."
Varun has been a vocal supporter of the #MeToo movement, tweeting support on multiple occasions. His collaborators Anurag Kashyap, for whom he wrote Sacred Games, Raman Raghav 2.0 among other projects and Neeraj Ghaywan for whom he wrote Masaan, came out in support of him.
Neeraj, however also said his response might be emotional and that its the version of truth he chooses to believe in.
