Supreme Court Advocate Pitted Against Father By Congress, Trailing Far Behind At Last-But-One Position, In Araku

Supreme Court advocate Vyricherla Shruti Devi, whom the Congress had pitted against her father Vyricherla Kishore Chandra Deo of the TDP, has failed to make a mark in her electoral debut in Araku constituency in Andhra Pradesh.

Shruti Devi could garner just over 3000 (2 per cent) votes.

Her father, a six-time parliamentarian and former Union minister – who belongs to the royal tribal family and is known to be a `gentleman politician’ – had joined the TDP in February this year, being unhappy with the way the Congress was functioning in the state.

With the votes-tide swept by YSRCP in the state, Goddetti Madhavi is leading at 80799 (54 per cent) votes. Kishore Chandra Deo is trailing at 42283 votes (28 per cent). (Figures updated till 3:30 p.m.)

Shruti Devi was confident of winning with a huge margin, having campaigned for her father during last three elections, and having played a key role in his win in 2009.

Goddeti Madhavi, the YSRCP candidate, is daughter of a former MLA of the CPI, and works as a physical education teacher in a tribal welfare school.
