Tamil Nadu: Terror Alert Issued In Coimbatore After Intelligence Received Of Six-Member Lashkar Group From Sri Lanka

Coimbatore district in Tamil Nadu has been placed on high alert after inputs were received from military intelligence about at least six terrorists from the Lashkar-e-Taiba outfit being present in the area, reports The Times of India.

It is believed that the terrorists slipped into India through Sri Lanka. One member of the group is a Pakistani national, Ilyas alias Anwar, while five others are Tamil Muslims from Sri Lanka.

Over 1,500 police personnel have been deployed in Coimbatore to comb the city and find the fugitives.

"We have deployed around 1,500 cops in the city. We are also gathering information from intelligence sources about the presence of LeT groups. Security has been upped at places of worship and police personnel have been deployed at bus stands, railway stations," said commissioner of police, Sumit Sharan.

Neighbouring districts have also seen heavy police deployment while securing has also been tightened in the state capital, Chennai.
