A Lashkar-e-Toiba militant, Abu Musaib, was killed in a gunfight in Kashmir valley’s Bandipora district today (19 January). A policeman was also injured in the encounter.
Security personnel surrounded the Khosa Mohalla area in the district following an intelligence tip-off. This triggered the gunfight, leaving the militant dead and the policeman injured, the police said.
The injured security personnel has been identified as Vikas Sharma from the Special Operations Group. He has been hit by a bullet below the left side of his chest.
According to reports, the terrorist killed in the gunfight is nephew of Zakiur Rehman Lakhvi, the mastermind of 2008 Mumbai attacks. Lakhvi was granted bail by a Pakistani court in 2014, a day after 130 children were killed in an attack in Peshawar.
