In another sign of divisions within the Congress party on its stance over the revocation of Article 370, veteran leader and Lok Sabha MP Shashi Tharoor has remarked that even prime minister Jawaharlal Nehru didn’t want the provision to stay on permanently, reports The New Indian Express.
He made the comments during an interview regarding the release of his new book ‘The Hindu Way’. "Even Nehruji said that Article 370 needs to stay as long as it is required but doesn’t have to stay forever,” he stated.
Still, Tharoor added that the government’s move was not done in a way which was in line with the spirit of the constitution.
He also commented on the issue of building a Ram temple in Ayodhya, saying that it would be ideal to have it built, but that another community’s place of worship needn’t have been destroyed for the same.
Recently, Tharoor had drawn the ire of his party’s Kerala unit for saying that Prime Narendra Modi needs to be lauded if took a correct step. KPCC president Mullappally Ramachandran asked him to explain his stance.
