A 14-year-old Pakistani Christian girl Huma Younus has been kidnapped and forcibly converted to Islam before getting married off to her abductor Abdul Jabbar, journalist Naila Inayat has reported.
Huma a Class 8 student was kidnapped from her native place of Karachi and then taken to Dera Ghazi Khan in Punjab. The papers pertaining to her marriage and conversion were later sent to her parents.
While speaking to the media after a court hearing, Huma’s mother denied her abductor’s claims that her daughter is 18 years old. She questioned if they would not get any justice in Pakistan with it being an Islamic nation.
She claimed that Huma’s kidnapper was in touch with them to boast that even if the whole Christian community stands up against him, they would not be able to harm him in any way.
After the incident came to light, various Indian social media users stressed upon the need for India to implement the Citizenship Amendment Bill so that girls like Huma would be able to escape Islamist persecution.
In recent years, Pakistan has been a hotbed of forced conversion of minorities especially Hindus and Christians. It was recently reported that two Hindu girls from Sindh were kidnapped and forcibly converted to Islam with a similar modus operandi.
