TMC’s Internal Survey Acknowledges That CPM’s Vote Share Is Shifting To BJP In Lok Sabha Polls

An internal analysis carried out by the ruling Trinamool Congress (TMC) has acknowledged that the 30 per cent vote share belonging to the left parties is shifting to the BJP, in the Lok Sabha polls, Hindustan Times has reported.

As per an unnamed TMC leader quoted in the report, the party feels that if 10 per cent of the left’s vote shifts to the BJP, the party’s expected seat tally might come down from 30 to 25. The party also feels that the BJP has a significant advantage in 15 Lok Sabha seats where the minority population is low.

The TMC though officially maintains that it would improve its 2014 tally of 34 seats, this time round. In 2014 the left parties had garnered 30 per cent vote while the BJP’s vote share stood at 16 per cent.

It has been reported recently that the grassroots cadre of the CPM is actively helping the BJP workers on the ground to achieve the common goal of ousting Mamata Banerjee and the TMC establishment.

It is claimed that BJP poll managers and CPM ground workers are holding regular meetings, plan door-to-door campaigns and keep a vigil at polling booths on election day. Like the BJP, the CPM is also said to be suffering at the hands of the ruling TMC.

Some CPM workers have also coined, 'Unishey half, Ekushey saaf' (Half in 2019 and saaf in 2021), which shows its plan to oust TMC out of Bengal by 2021 assembly elections.
