TN BJP Chief Tamilisai Soundararajan Denies Asking Actor Ajith To Join Party; Latter Reiterates His ‘Apolitical Stance’

Tamil Nadu BJP president Tamilisai Soundararajan on Monday (21 January) denied inviting famous Tamil actor Ajith Kumar to join the party after a statement issued by the actor said he was “completely apolitical”.

“I did not approach him (to join the BJP) like a TV channel had claimed. Ajith’s response is a welcome relief and clear unlike other actors who are dilly-dallying about their political entry,” she said and added that it was not wrong for youngsters to join politics.

The actor shot down rumours of his joining a political party in a lengthy statement made on Monday.

Ajith’s clear-cut response was praised by Fisheries Minister D Jayakumar, who lauded him and said he had ‘Thozhil Bhakthi ‘ or ‘Devotion to work’. He also recalled an incident where the actor took on the DMK government for forcing actors to take part in events.

Ajith, famously known as ‘Thala’ in the state, has reiterated his indifference towards politics and said that he had never asked his fans to vote for a particular party.

“I make sure my films are not politically biased. This comes from the understanding that my career is in acting and not politics. This is why I disbanded my fan club a few years ago," he said.

“My political inclination lies only with the vote I cast and I have never asked my fans to support any political party. I didn’t come to cinema to do politics or to compete with others. I expect the same from my fans,” he added.

He concluded his message by appealing to his fans to focus on their education and careers, follow law and order, focus on their health and respect each other.

"That will be the affection you show me,” he said.
