TN Is No More The Cracker King; There’s A New Challenger Called Karnataka

BySwarajya Staff

Hosur, Tamil Nadu, has been the premier destination for buying firecrackers for Bengalureans and people from other states for a very long time due to affordable prices, but the tide has swung towards the other side of the border as more cracker shops have blossomed in Karnataka, reports Deccan Herald.

Sales seem to have caught on at the border despite the confusion surrounding the Supreme Court’s order restricting the bursting of crackers during Deepavali. Bucking the trend, merchants in Karnataka seem to be doing better business than those of others states.

The citizens are not the only ones to be left bewildered after the apex court’s order as law enforcement officials have also been left clueless about the implementation of the order. The police are working with various agencies to implement the court order, said city Police Commissioner T Suneel Kumar.

“We are reaching out to RWAs and creating awareness, with KSPCB officials. There will be patrolling on festival days, and anybody found bursting crackers beyond the stipulated time will be booked."
