Organisers of Tokyo Olympics, which will be held in July this year, have said that they will be running portable Mosques reports The Straits Times.
The decision has been taken in order to ensure that thousands of Muslim athletes, officials and supporters arriving in Japan do not struggle to find an appropriate place to pray.
The games will start on 24 July and there are arrangements of prayer room for the athletes in the athlete’s village which is under construction at the time.
However some venues may not have a designated space and these mobile mosques can be utilised for the cause. The Mobile Mosque is well equipped and has a 48 sq m prayer room that opens up on the back of a parked truck. Also, the truck can be widened in seconds and will also include Arabic signage and outdoor water taps for pre-worship cleaning.
Notably, Japan has very few mosques spread all across the country and it may be difficult for Muslims who need to pray five times a day.
However the city of Tokyo has plenty of prayer spaces in hotels and public areas spread across the Japanese capital.
