Towards An Electric Future: Uber To Partner With Mahindra For Electric Cars In India

In a sign of the times to come, Uber has partnered with Mahindra and Mahindra to launch electric cars on it’s platform in India.

According to the report by EconomicTimes, the pilot will be launched in New Delhi and Hyderabad, where several hundred of Mahindra’s E2Os and e-Veritos will be launched starting February. The initial three months will be focussed on getting the infrastructure in-place for running these cars, in collaboration with public and private entities.

"As a pioneer, we would like to be at the forefront, leading this change towards smart and sustainable mobility. Our collaboration with Uber is an important next step to help accelerate the large scale adoption of EVs on shared mobility platforms and meet the nations vision of EVs", said Pawan Goenka, Managing Director at Mahindra and Mahindra, expressing optimism about the electric vehicle industry in India.

The deal will help driver partners on Uber to get Mahindra’s electric cars at competitive prices with attractive financing and insurance premiums and maintenance packages. The central government already incentivises electric vehicles under the FAME India scheme.

The announcement comes on the heels of a tie-up between Tata Motors and Jayem Automotives, to deploy electric vehicles through Uber’s rival Ola in New Delhi.
