After the successful rollout of Train 18, Integral Coach Factory (ICF) in Chennai as rolled out a new prototype for MEMU (Mainline Electrical Multiple Unit) trains, Financial Express has reported. This train will be used for inter-city travel.
The General Manager of ICF, Sudhanshu Mani described this MEMU as the “little sister” of Train-18.
The speed range of the new MEMU is said to be between 110 to 130 kmph. A fully suspended three-phase motor will fuel the motor coach bogies. As far as the brake system goes, it comes with wheel-mounted disc brakes for effective braking. The MEMUs currently can carry up to 2,402 passengers and with the underslung equipment in place, it can carry up to 2,618 passengers.
The MEMU rake will have six coaches and some of the other features include 18 bogies, double sliding doors, CCTVs, stainless steel coach body, air-conditioned driver cabins, GPS-based announcement systems, high-quality cushion seats, two toilets in all coaches etc, Financial Express reported.
This new prototype has been launched at a cost of Rs 26 crore, which is just a crore more expensive than the previous model.
