The Delhi Police has booked activist and JNU student leader Umar Khalid and Jamia Milia Islamia students Meeran Haider and Safoora Zargar under the Unlawful Activities (Prevention) Act (UAPA) in connection with the Northeast Delhi riots, Press Trust of India has reported.
In the FIR, the Delhi police has claimed that Khalid and two others hatched a premeditated conspiracy with regards to the Northeast Delhi riots. They have also been booked under sections pertaining to sedition, murder, attempt to murder, promoting enmity between different groups on grounds of religion and rioting.
The FIR adds that Khalid allegedly gave two provocative speeches in the national capital and urged crowds to block roads during US President Donald Trump’s visit.
The two other accused Haider and Zargar who are members of the Jamia Coordination Committee are already in police custody. Haider, a RJD youth leader is pursuing PHD from Jamia while Zargar is a MPhil student.
