BySwarajya Staff

Three teenage girls aged 13, 16 and 17 respectively were found unconscious in their field in Baburaha village of Asoha police station in Unnao district of Uttar Pradesh, Times of India reports.

Allegedly, two of the younger girls were declared dead as soon as they arrived in the district hospital. However, the 17-year-old one is fighting for her life at a hospital in Kanpur.

The incident was uncovered when the brother of the girl aged 16 went out to the field to search for her sister at around 7 pm. “I spotted my sister along with my two other cousins with their hands and legs tied. My sister had gone to bring fodder for the cattle around 2 pm,” the boy said in his official statement to the police.

Another brother of one of the departed girls disclosed upon probing that he is unaware of the incident though he travels daily from Unnao to Lucknow for work purposes.

Currently, this is suspected to be a case of poisoning.

“The third victim is being treated in Kanpur Nagar and her condition is critical but stable. It has been declared a suspected case of poisoning. The deceased girls' post-mortem revealed no external injury. The cause of death has not been ascertained and the viscera has been preserved for chemical analysis,” DGP HC Awasthi was quoted as saying.

Cops reportedly reached the site and discovered that the bodies of the girls weren’t tied. Moreover, neither did their hands and legs display the markings of being tied. However, a white substance was visible oozing out of their mouths according to Unnao SP Anand Kulkarni.

Laxmi Singh, Inspector Range of Police of Lucknow range, is supervising this investigation. She revealed to TOI that no injury marks were found on the bodies of the victims and their clothes were intact too.

Singh further explained, “We are probing from all angles while statements of the relatives and family members are being taken separately. We are trying to first concretise the entire sequence of the events and also hunt for evidence.”

The two Unnao girls who were poisoned and killed at a field on Wednesday are to be cremated today amid heavy security deployment. Large contingents of police and local authorities are deployed in the area.

The police are conducting combing an operation to recover evidence from the site. A dog squad is conducting searches on the entire route on which the girls travelled from home to go to the farms.
