Amid debate and outrage over the arrest of ‘Urban Naxals’ in India, President Donald Trump has warned of left-wing violence in the United States if the Democrats win the mid-term elections in the country, BBC has reported.
According to Trump, who mentioned Antifa in his statement, the Democrats will overturn his policies “violently” if they win.
"It's not a question of like or dislike, it's a question that they will overturn everything that we've done and they will do it quickly and violently. And violently. There is violence. When you look at Antifa - these are violent people," he said.
Antifa, short for anti-fascist, refers to a group of ultra-left activists in the US who often get violent during their protests and resort to vandalism.
Trump has said that the mid-term elections are not only a referendum on him but also "on your religion, it's a referendum on free speech and the First Amendment (guaranteeing basic freedoms)".
Appealing to conservative Christian groups for support, Trump said they were one vote away from "losing everything".
A lot is at stake for Trump and the Republicans in the mid-term elections. All 435 members of the House of Representatives, 35 seats in the 100-member Senate and 36 out of 50 state governors will be up fro grab.
