The Vadodara police on Wednesday (1 January) announced that it will recover the cost of damages to public property from the anti-Citizenship Amendment Act (CAA) rioters in the violence which took place in the city’s Hathikhana area last month, Times of India has reported.

As per the city police commissioner the authorities have assessed the damage which was caused to its vehicles during the stone pelting on 20 December. The total damage is estimated at Rs 40,000 and would now be recovered from the rioters.

The trend to recover damages from the rioters in the recent anti-CAA violence was started by the Yogi Adityanath led Uttar Pradesh government which vowed to make each and every rioter cough up the compensation amount.

Since then even the Railway Board Chairman has confirmed that the railways too would make rioters pay for the damages they caused to its property in West Bengal.
