India’s envoy to the United Nations Syed Akbaruddin slammed Pakistan during a debate at the United Nations on Wednesday for raking up Kashmir, calling the terror-sponsoring state’s delegation to the world body ‘isolated’.

The permanent representative advised Pakistan to not indulge in “polemics”.

“We hope that the new government of Pakistan will, rather than indulge in polemics, work constructively to build a safe, stable, secure and developed the South Asian region, free of terror and violence,” he said.

“It is in line with this approach that I take this opportunity to remind -Pakistan – the one isolated delegation that made unwarranted references to an integral part of India, that pacific settlement requires pacific intent in thinking and pacific content in action,” the representative said during the debate.

We hope that the new government of Pakistan will, rather than indulge in polemics, work constructively to build a safe, stable, secure and developed South Asian region, free of terror and violence,” he added.

Earlier, Pakistan permanent representative to the United Nations, Maleeha Lodhi, had raked up the Kashmir issue, calling for a plebiscite.

Last year, Lodhi held up a photograph of a girl at the United Nations, offering it as a proof of "Indian brutality" in Kashmir. Later, it was revealed that the envoy had used a fake picture to mislead the world body and the delegations present there. The photo turned out to be that of a 17-year-old Palestinian girl, taken in Gaza in 2014 by award-winning photographer Heidi Levine.
