As the tensions between India and Pakistan continue to rise after the Indian air strike on Pakistan-based terrorist outfit Jaish-e-Mohammed, the United states has asked Pakistan to abide by its United Nations Security Council (UNSC) commitments to deny safe havens to terrorists and block their access to funds, reports Money Control.
According to the report, the statement comes in the wake of India handing over a dossier to Pakistan on Wednesday (27 February) with specific details on Pakistani terrorist group JeM’s involvement in the Pulwama terror attack, in which more than 40 Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF) personnel were martyred, and the presence of JeM terror camps and its leadership in Pakistan .
“Cross-border terrorism, such as the recent attack on India's CRPF on 14 February, poses a grave threat to the security of the region. We reiterate our call for Pakistan to abide by its United Nations Security Council commitments to deny terrorists safe haven and block their access to funds,” a State Department spokesperson was quoted in the report as saying.
The spokesperson also urged both sides to de-escalate the tension between them and take immediate steps in this regard.
“The United States calls on India and Pakistan to cease all cross-border military activity and for a return to stability,” the spokesperson said.
“We urge both sides to take immediate steps to de-escalate the situation, including through direct communication. Further military activity will exacerbate the situation,” the spokesperson added.
