Wipro Ventures Into The World Of Self Driving Vehicles, Will Develop Navigational And Control Technology

Indian software major Wipro has entered into a pact with Genesys International Corporation to develop solutions for autonomous vehicles, The Economic Times has reported.

Genesys which specialises in developing advanced High Definition mapping technology for the self driving vehicles, would be aided by Wipro which will work on navigational and control technology for the system.

As part of the pact, the two companies first created a high definition map of the Wipro campus, which enabled an autonomous pilot vehicle developed by Wipro to operate on the premises.

KR Sanjiv the Chief Technology Officer (CTO) of Wipro has said that the partnership enhances the company’s presence in the autonomous system space, and would enable the company to cater to its global customers in this domain.

Kuldeep Moholkar, CEO designate of Genesys told IANS that the company is in talks with players in the autonomous vehicle space like auto-makers, original equipment manufacturers (OEMs) and product cum services companies to provide value based services.

As reported by IANS, the HD mapping for autonomous vehicles is potentially a $10 billion market and each autonomous vehicle would be fitted with HD map content worth $225.

These HD maps are created via Light Detection and Ranging (LiDAR) data which consists of billions of pixels of data.
