The wreckage of Indian Air Force’s (IAF) missing Antonov AN-32 aircraft was spotted today afternoon (11 June) in Arunachal Pradesh, IAF confirmed in a statement.
The wreckage was located at an elevation of 12,000 feet by IAF’s Mi-17 helicopter, around 16 km north of Lipo. The IAF is currently in process of establishing the status of occupants and survivors.
The aircraft went missing on 3 June with 13 airmen on board including one Wing Commander, four Flight Lieutenants, one Squadron Leader and seven airmen.
The AN-32 had taken-off from Assam’s Jorhat air base and was scheduled to land at the Mechuka Advanced Landing Ground in Arunachal Pradesh, near China border. After the aircraft went missing, the IAF launched a massive search operation using every resource at its disposal.
