Uttar Pradesh chief minister Yogi Adityanath has directed officials to ensure that the migrant workers traveling home from other states do not face problems and inconvenience at the inter-state or inter-district level. A meeting of the core team fighting Covid-19 in the state - now better known as Team 11 - was held today.

During the meeting, Adityanath directed the officials to ensure that "humane treatment is meted out to the workers returning to their respective districts."

He has asked the officials to ensure that all the migrant workers returning to the state are first taken to quarantine centers in their home districts. Here, the screening and medical checkups must take place to allow them to be sent home if found healthy, or to send them for home quarantine "after giving them rice, pulses and other food items."

Adityanath has made repeated appeals to migrant workers hailing from UP to not travel on their own or on foot.

As more and more migrant workers return to their home state Uttar Pradesh amid the nationwide lock down, Adityanath is intensifying measures to provide them livelihoods. Areas that are suitable for being evolved as livelihood hubs have been identified.

Adityanath has stressed on his government's motive of welcoming the migrant workers home and providing them a life of dignity and livelihood. These workers have lost work and livelihoods during the Covid-19 lockdown and have or are choosing to return to UP to live with their dear ones and lead a life of dignity.

Adityanath had initiated plans and measures to help the migrant workers resettle in their home state in March. Nearly 20 lakh migrant workers are expected to return to UP as per reports.

The officials in Team 11 have also been directed to come up with a database of the skilled workers. This will help the workers get proper employment opportunities that can be pursued after their mandatory quarantine period is over. "The migrant workers will also get a sustenance allowance of Rs 1,000 during the quarantine period," ANI has reported.

The report adds: "Approximately 75,000 migrants from various states are scheduled to return to Uttar Pradesh today through 55 trains. Around 25,000 others are also scheduled to return through other means."

Efforts are on to absorb willing and laborious workers who were living in other states before the Covid-19 situation to earn livelihoods into different fields of work.

These include the ready made garment sector, food processing, cow-based products, horticulture, flower-based products, and allied products.

The Adityanath government has planned both urgent and long term measures to provide the workers livelihood. The idea is to turn the tough times being faced by the workers as well as the state into an opportunity for a stronger Uttar Pradesh and better lives.
