‘You Have Six Months To Live’: Indian Security Forces Cut Short J&K Terrorists’ Life Span

BySwarajya Staff

The active life period of an average militant in Kashmir has been significantly cut down to just six months from the earlier average of nine months, reports The New Indian Express. The statistic represents the average amount of time a terrorist has from the time of picking up arms to the time he is killed or captured.

The credit for this progress has been given to successful security operations based on specific intelligence inputs. “The active life of a terrorist has come down as we have been getting pinpointed information about the movement of the terrorists and more so about the top leaders of the terrorist groups,” stated a security official.

The overall number of terrorists killed this year has also gone up sharply, with the total till 21 December reaching 262, which is the highest figure in eight years. Even in 2010, terrorist fatalities were only 232.

The large death toll is also attributed to the huge spike in Kashmiri youths joining the Islamist rebels - this year already 191 have picked up arms, while the total for the entire year in 2017 was only 128.

Security forces have also been hit hard by casualties this year, with 61 personnel being martyred in just cross-border ceasefire violations, including in sniping and Border Action Team (BAT) incidents.
