With her divorce from Amazon CEO Jeff Bezos finalised, Mackenzie Bezos will now become the fourth richest woman in the world with a current net worth of about $36 billion, reports Bloomberg.
As per Bloomberg Billionaires Index, Mackenzie’s new net worth of will now rank only behind the $54 billion fortune of L’Oreal SA heiress Francoise Bettencourt Meyers, the $44 billion held by Alice Walton and the $37 billion net worth of Jacqueline Badger Mars.
As part of the divorce settlement, Mackenzie will receive four per cent of Amazon’s stock, which is currently one of the largest publicly traded companies in the world. The divorce is expected to be completed in around 90 days.
Jeff Bezos, who founded the company in 1994, will retain 75 per cent of his stock in the company. He will also continue to exercise sole voting authority over the shares. Even with his stake in Amazon reduced, Jeff is expected to remain still the world’s richest man with a 12 per cent stake that carries a value of $107 billion.
A Novelist
The couple met while they were working at a New York-based hedge fund, D.E. Shaw in 1992 and got married in 1993. Jeff founded Amazon as an online book store in late 1994 and then expanded into a variety of products and services.
Mackenzie is a novelist and has written books like Traps and The Testing of Luther. In 2015, the novelist founded an anti-bullying organisation known as Bystander Revolution, where she serves as the executive director. The couple were married for 25 years and have four children.
