Coronavirus Pandemic: 56-Year-Old Man In Mumbai’s Dharavi With No Travel History Dies Due To Covid-19

In a major health concern for authorities, a 56-year-old resident of densely populated Dharavi in Mumbai who had contracted coronavirus died on Wednesday (1 April) evening, reports India Today.

The man reportedly had no foreign travel history, as per the health official at the Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation, and ran a local garments shop in Dharavi.

The man, who lived in a building constructed under the Slum Rehabilitation Authority (SRA) scheme, is the first person to have tested positive in the Dharavi region, infamous as the Asia’s largest slum area.

After the incident, the authorities have sealed the entire society where he lived, which has over 300 flats and some 90 shops. Additionally, they have also quarantined the residents of the building.

"Swabs of all family members and residents of the building are being sent for testing. All senior citizens and patients with respiratory illness in Baliga Nagar will be tested,” said Kiran Dighavkar, ward officer.
