The Delhi-Mumbai route is likely to get the second Vande Bharat Express, with the first one currently plying on the Delhi-Varanasi route. In comparison to the Rajdhani Express, Vande Bharat will reach its destination four hours quicker.

The train will be built at the Integral Coach Factory (ICF), Chennai and will initially clock speeds of 130 kmph, while it is capable of cruising at 180 kmph.

The train will incorporate some design changes to provide more space for catering while also keeping in mind the stone-pelting and other accidents.

The service will have fewer halts than Rajdhani which stops at five stations while travelling to Delhi and vice versa. Rajdhani Express covers 1,358 km distance in almost 16 hours while Vande Bharat will do it in 12 hours, in a report by Rail Analysis.

Vande Bharat is a semi-high speed intercity unit is estimated to be 40 per cent cheaper than a similar train imported from Europe. It currently costs around Rs 100 crore to build, which is expected to go down in the future. The train has 16 passenger cars and has a seating capacity of 1,128 passengers.
