After the arrest of KP Sasikala, chief of the Hindu Aikya Vedi, BJP state president Sreedharan Pillai on Saturday alleged that the detention of Sasikala and others was illegal, reports Mathrubhumi.
The police took Sasikala, who is believed to be over 50, into preventive custody around 2 am for not following prohibitory orders. The police halted the Hindu Aikya Vedi state president at the hilltop, where she had come for darshan.
Despite claims by police of arresting Sasikala under the Preventive Detention Act, the Act has not been implemented in the state. The law in the state says no one should be detained for engaging in political activities since 1975.
Pillai questioned the police over the arrest saying, “Police should clarify as to who is it that gave them the power to arrest leaders from Sabarimala."
Furthermore, he criticised the communist government for trying to destroy the Hindu temple and Hindu culture.
“Over five crore pilgrims including people from other states are also visiting the shrine. But the state government has not made any facilities for the pilgrims here. It is really disgusting,” he noted.
He also declared that the BJP will extend the protest to other states to save the Hindu temple. “We are planning to extend the protest to six or seven states. The Sabarimala issue is not a Kerala matter only. We are seeking Centre's intervention in the issue,” he added.
