Senior Karnataka Congress leader D K Shivakumar was sent to the Enforcement Directorate (ED) custody till 13 September by Delhi's Rouse Avenue court today evening (4 September), ANI has reported.
He would now be further interrogated by the ED in connection with a money laundering case. Earlier in the day he was produced before judge Ajay Kumar Kuhar.
Shivakumar was arrested by the ED yesterday (3 September) which led to a huge backlash from Congress supporters in Karnataka.
Shivakumar’s supporters have been reported going on a rampage in various parts of the state which included blocking roads and stoning buses. The leader and his supporters have called it vendetta politics by the BJP.
Shivakumar was represented by prominent lawyer and senior Congress leader Abhishek Manu Singhvi, who is also representing P Chidambaram in the INX Media Scam.
The ED has claimed that custodial interrogation has been necessitated due to Shivakumar’s evasiveness and attempts to misguide the probe.
Shivakumar is a well known troubleshooter for the Congress in Karnataka and was known for preventing Congress legislatures from being poached by holing them up in Bengaluru’s Eagleton Golf Resort.
