Citing intelligence about terror threats, the Jammu & Kashmir government has issued a security advisory asking pilgrims in the Kashmir Valley for the Amarnath Yatra to ‘curtail their stay’ with immediate effect and head back home.
The Amarnath Yatra had already been suspended for the last three days, with authorities attributing the decision to the blockade on the Jammu-Srinagar highway. However, in a press conference held today by the Commander of 15 Corps based in Srinagar, Lt Gen K J S Dhillon revealed that the Indian Army had recovered Pakistan Army weapons along the pilgrimage route.
He also talked about specific intelligence about a terror threat along the pilgrimage route.
In the past week, the government has massively ramped up deployment of additional troops in the valley, with 380 fresh companies of paramilitary forces being sent there. Moreover, the situation along the LoC has also been unusually tense, with both the Indian and Pakistani sides exchanging heavy fire.
