A suspected ISIS operative named Muhammed Masiuddin alias Abu Musa hurled a sandal at a presiding judge in the Kolkata sessions court in a fit of anger. The sandal missed the judge but hit a lawyer instead, Hindustan Times has reported.
The incident happened on Tuesday (4 February) when during a hearing Musa suddenly got angry and threatened to commit suicide. While he was being placated by his lawyer, he suddenly removed his sandals and flung it at the judge.
Following the attack, the NIA - which is investigating the matter, asked the judge to henceforth carry out the trial by video conferencing. Musa has in the past assaulted jail officials and had also slashed a jail guard’s throat in 2017.
He was arrested in 2016 by Bengal’s CID on charges of radicalising youths to join ISIS.
