MCI To Now Recognise UK Super-Specialty Certificates For Doctors In India

The Board of Directors of the Medical Council of India (MCIA), India’s medical regulator, has made the decision to recognise the certificate of completion of training (CCT) for doctors who have completed super-speciality courses in the UK, reports The New Indian Express.
CCT is pursued by doctors who have completed a post-PG specialisation and this allows doctors in the UK eligible to work as consultants and general practitioners.
After the approval of medical regulator, Indian doctors with CCT who lacked recognition will now be considered super-specialists.
Secretary-general of the Medical Council of India-Board of Governors, R K Vats said “The approval to recognise CCT was given in an April meeting of the governing body.”
India has shortage of specialist doctors which is at present almost 80 per cent.
A medical practitioner trained in the UK and Canada, Dr. Murali Krishna Bhagavatula, who has been supporting such a move for the past two years, said, “It will have big implications for hundreds of doctors willing to come back to India to work.”
