United States (US) President Donald Trump called out Pakistani policies and citied them as the reason for cancelling the $1.3 billion aid that Pakistan received from the US.

Trump made the remarks yesterday (22 July) as the Pakistani PM was seated next to him being on a visit to the US.

"We were paying USD 1.3 billion to Pakistan as aid, for many years. The problem was Pakistan was not doing anything for us. They were really subversive. They were going against us. I ended that about a year and a half ago, the $1.3 billion (aid)," Trump said signalling Pakistani adversarial policies towards America.

On the aid being restored to Pakistan, Trump said "To be honest, I think we have a better relationship with Pakistan right now than we did when we were paying that money. But all of that can come back, depending on what we work out."

Pakistan has been facing an economic crisis and has been finding it tough raising loans from global markets having lost American support in the global arena. The IMF, in which the US holds a major stake in voting rights, had placed a tough economic restructuring criteria before the country as the condition to an additional loan of $6.5 billion.
