On the heels of the Economic Quota Bill being approved by the President, Sikkim has launched its 'One Family, One Job' on Saturday (12 January) with Chief Minister Pawan Chamling handing out temporary appointment letters to two beneficiaries from each of the 32 Assembly constituencies in the state, reports India Today.
Under the scheme, employment is envisioned to a member of every family which does not have a government job in the state. All loan debts in the farming and agriculture sector are also expected to be revoked under this scheme. Currently, recruitments are being made for Group C and Group D posts in 12 government departments.
The government further announced that 20,000 youths from the state would be given employment immediately under the scheme and 11,772 appointment letters were handed out on Saturday itself. Budget for the paying out salaries for 89 days in the current financial year has already been allocated.
"We are giving appointments for 26 different posts, including chowkidar (guard), maali (gardener), ward attendents in hospitals and other health facilities, village police guards and assistant village librarians," said Chamling.
