Amidst the Congress party rushing to take partial credit for the success of Mission Shakti, former DRDO chief Dr V K Saraswat has criticised the erstwhile UPA government for not giving a positive response to the operation, ANI has reported.

As per Dr Saraswat, he and other senior officials had made presentations to the National Security Adviser and National Security Council during the UPA era. He added that while discussions were held and attended by the concerned parties, the UPA government never gave a positive response to the mission.

Dr Saraswat goes ahead to state that things changed when the Narendra Modi led government came to power. He states that the current Chairman of DRDO Dr Satheesh Reddy and National Security Adviser (NSA) Ajit Doval made a similar proposal to Prime Minister Modi who had the courage to give a go ahead.

He also rued the fact that had the UPA government given clearances in 2012-13 India would have developed an anti-satellite missile by 2014-15.

DRDO and other Indian agencies scripted history today (27 May) when they successfully shot down a low earth orbit satellite using a fully indigenously developed anti-satellite missile. This was proudly announced by Prime Minister Modi during an address to the nation.
