Apple Inc. is reportedly planning to launch a subscription-based gaming service which will allow users to play a bundled list of titles on their Apple devices for a fee, reports Cheddar.

The service, which will work like a Netflix for games, is still in the early stages of development. Also, there is no clarity regarding the subscription cost and the titles to be offered by Apple as part of the scheme.

The company has also discussed partnering with developers as a publisher, according to two people familiar with the talks, which could signal Apple’s ambition to assume distribution, marketing, and other related costs for select games,” said the story.

This development comes at a time when Apple has been warned against slowing iPhone sales as customers choose to hold onto their phones longer than the company expected.

Though iPhone still accounts for two-thirds of the company’s revenues, its services business that includes App Store sales, streaming-music subscriptions and mobile payments, is multiplying and brought in $10.8 billion in revenues in the December quarter.

More Services

With Apple’s existing iPhone customers updating their phones rather slowly, Apple is exploring ways to monetise them through a slew of services. The planned gaming services is one of them.

The company is also expected to launch a video-streaming service to take on Amazon Prime Video and Netflix by as early as Mid-April (2019). Apple is also reportedly working on a magazine subscription service.
