Hitting Where It Hurts: NSA Ajit Doval Outlines How India Is Squeezing Pakistan Sponsored Terrorism 

Super cop Ajit Doval who is India’s National Security Adviser (NSA) has revealed India’s current strategy to counter Pakistan sponsored terrorism in Jammu and Kashmir.

As per a Hindustan Times report, Doval while speaking at a conference of top police officers revealed that the probe against terror funding by National Investigative Agency (NIA) has “put pressure in the right places” on foreign agencies who are sponsoring terror in J&K.

Doval asserted that it order to effectively counter terrorism, special emphasis has to be placed on curbing its funding but cautioned that the objective can be achieved only after meticulous investigation.

Doval hailed the NIA terror funding probe for making a tremendous contribution which has led to the arrest of dreaded separatists like Bitta Karate, Asiya Andrabi and Naeem Khan.

Doval also brought into focus the global investigation against Pakistan against terror funding via the Financial Action Task Force (FATF). As per Doval, this FATF action has put a lot of pressure on Pakistan.

While warning that Pakistan has mastered the art of supporting terrorism, Doval stressed that the anti-terror strategy needs to encompass, “taking away their weapons, cutting their financing and degrading their capabilities”.

Battling Pakistan Backed Terrorism Using FATF

Doval advised NIA to and other investigative agencies to collect information and bring it to FATF’s notice. He stated that while the world is already aware of Pakistan’s hand in terror funding, but the information needs to be converted into evidence which can then be submitted to FATF.

“Even if we say that Pakistan is sponsoring terrorism terrorism, we need evidence. So, don't destroy the evidence”, said Doval.

He also encouraged publicising the information being uncovered against Pakistan as it would end up bolstering India’s position over this issue.

Such efforts though may not be enough as the FATF is currently being headed by China and other members include Malaysia and Turkey - both of whom sided with Pakistan over the Kashmir issue.

India’s New Military Doctrine

Besides countering non-conventional warfare, India is also all set to introduce a new military doctrine focusing on conventional warfare.

This new military doctrine prepared by Doval is expected to be submitted to Prime Minister Narendra Modi led Cabinet Committee on Security (CCS) later this month.

It is expected to address aspects like India’s no first use position on Nuclear weapons and other scenarios which may lead to an escalation.

It will also map out the future of Indian Navy as an expeditionary force and potential development of bases on the 611 islands under Indian control. This may include upgrading the existing bases to increase India’s Naval presence in the Indian ocean to counter the rising Chinese threat.

Another objective of the doctrine would be to lay out the potential military threat to India including a worse case scenario of a two-front war and the resources India requires to fight it.

Another key aspect of the National Security Strategy (NSS) would be the inclusion of a space doctrine laying out India’s engagement policy with respect to the recently developed Anti-Satellite Missile - ASAT.
