Nitika Kaul Dhoundiyal Wife Of Martyred Major Dhoundiyal Clears SSC Exam, To Become Indian Army Officer

Nitika Kaul Dhoundiyal wife of martyred Major Vibhuti Dhoundiyal has successfully cleared the Short Service Commission (SSC) exam and interview. She is thus all set to join the Indian Army as an officer, News18 has reported.

Major Dhoundiyal had bravely laid down his life during an anti-terror operation in Kashmir’s Pulwama last year, in the aftermath of the Pulwama terror attack. The 35 yer old major was posted with the 55 Rashtriya Rifles.

During the funeral, Nitika Dhoundiyal had paid a highly emotional tribute to her husband while moved everyone witnessing it to tears.

Nitika Dhoundiyal who works at a Noida based MNC, decided to fill the form to join Indian Army six months after Major Dhoundiyal’s martyrdom.

As per Nitika Dhoundiyal, this decision to join the Army is inspired by her late husband.

“I took time. I first needed to accept what had happened. Vibhu was very progressive. He wanted me to do better than him. So whenever I had any anxiety or doubt about my decision to join the Indian Army, I would close my eyes and think about what Vibhu would do. He was instrumental in my decision to join the army”, Nitika Dhoundiyal was quoted as saying.

While Indian Army provides an age relaxation for spouses of martyred soldiers, the selection process remains as tough as ever. She thus had to work very hard to clear the written test and the interview.

During the preparation she went though the same anxious moments Major Dhoundiyal would have gone through during his own selection process, which also helped her connect with him.

“I filled the SSC form six months after Vibhu's martyrdom. It was my way to heal. When I wrote the exam and gave the interview, I could feel what he would have felt when he wrote his SSC. I connected with him, his fears and his anxiety. Somehow that gave me strength”, said Nitika Dhoundiyal.

She now awaits the publication of the merit list following which she will undergo a one year training at the Officers Training Academy in Chennai.

She is now determined to excel during training and hopes to become an officer everyone can be proud of.
