BySwarajya Videos

On 11 July 2006, seven pressure cooker bombs exploded in suburban trains on Mumbai’s Western Railway Line. The blasts killed 209 people and injured 714 others. The Lashkar-e-Qahhar, with alleged links to the Lashkar-e-Taiba claimed responsibility of the attack. The Mumbai Police concluded that the bombs were placed at Churchgate and exploded on their journey to the Suburbs. In 2009, an arrested leader of the Indian Mujahideen confessed on a TV channel that he was involved in the blasts.

It took nine years to complete the prosecution of the accused. By September 2015, 12 accused were convicted. 7 were awarded life sentences. 5 got death sentences. None of the death sentences have been carried out yet.

Here’s to the memory of 209 fellow Indians who perished on that fateful day. May justice be done to them and their families.
