With one new case of COVID-19 in the Andaman & Nicobar Islands today (Mar 30), the total number of people infected with novel coronavirus in the Union Territory to 10.
A man in his late 20s who tested positive for Covid-19 today was a part of a group of people that had gone to Delhi to attend Tablighi Jamaat congregation and returned to Port Blair via Kolkata on March 24.
Nine others patients who are undergoing treatment at the GB Pant Hospital in Port Blair were also part of the group that attended the religious programme and returned to Port Blair. The group was transported to the hospital directly from the airport after they showed coronavirus-like symptoms and did not get in contact with locals,
The New Indian Express quoted the nodal officer for COVID-19 in Andaman and Nicobar Islands Avijit Roy has saying that a group of over 10 people went to Visakhapatnam in February on a religious tour. From there, they took a train to Nizamuddin in Delhi on March 16 and reached the national capital on March 18.
Local MP and Congress leader Kuldeep Rai Sharma said he has also gone on home-quarantine as he returned from Delhi on the same day as these patients..
