As many as three security officers were killed and many were injured after a truck bomb blast rocked outside police headquarters in Afghanistan's Eastern Laghman province on Wednesday (16 October), reported AlJazeera.
The Afghan Ministry of Interior Affairs spokesman, Nasrat Rahimi, said Wednesday's attack in Alishang district, in Laghman province, wounded 36 people, mainly civilians.
"The initial information provided by Afghan National Police (ANP) found the explosion occurred roughly at 5.50 am local time. The ANP is investigating circumstances of the incident to determine more facts and details will be shared with media as appropriate," spokesman for the provincial governor Assadullah Dawlatzai told reporters after the blast.
He later informed that over 20 students who were studying in a nearby religious school were also among the wounded. "The students were wounded by flying glass," he said.
The explosion affected several people and damaged buildings while security forces cordoned off the area for precautionary measures, according to locals.
The blast caused a plume of grey smoke to rise above the scene in the district, north of provincial capital Mehtarlam, they said.
Taliban spokesman Zabihullah Mujahid, claiming the responsibility of the attack, confirmed in a statement that their fighters had used a large truck full explosives in the attack.
