Having battled disapproval for long, Yoga has finally got the nod to be part of academics at Jawaharlal Nehru University (JNU). Ahead of International Yoga Day on June 21, the premier educational institution has approved a short-term course in yoga, as reported by The New Indian Express.
A proposal to introduce three short term courses in Yoga and Indian culture was initially floated two years ago. JNU had then drafted three courses following various communications from the human resource development ministry and the University Grants Commission, which was then circulated among the University’s various schoools and departments for feedback. But the draft was rejected by the Academic Council in November 2015.
Again in May 2016, the varsity asked its departments to rework on the proposed course structure, but in vain as the council rejected it once again in October last year. The course on Yoga has now finally got the nod, though there is no word on the two other proposed courses on Indian culture.

Introducing ElectionsHQ + 50 Ground Reports Project
The 2024 elections might seem easy to guess, but there are some important questions that shouldn't be missed.
Do freebies still sway voters? Do people prioritise infrastructure when voting? How will Punjab vote?
The answers to these questions provide great insights into where we, as a country, are headed in the years to come.
Swarajya is starting a project with an aim to do 50 solid ground stories and a smart commentary service on WhatsApp, a one-of-a-kind. We'd love your support during this election season.
