China’s national legislature has adopted a new law for the protection and exploitation of the land border areas, which is perceived to be a move that could have an influence on the country’s ongoing standoff with India across the Line of Actual Control (LAC).
The law specifies that ‘the sovereignty and territorial integrity of the People’s Republic of China are sacred and inviolable’ and it will become operational from 1st January, 2022 onward.
It reiterates that the state will undertake measures to protect its territorial integrity and land boundaries. They will also combat and guard against any act undermining the same.
The law further asserts that the Chinese military and the police force will be responsible for guarding the border against any infiltration, encroachment, provocation and invasion.
Moreover, a large part of the law deals with the state support for constructing border towns, enhancing their functioning and also strengthening the support capacity for the construction purposes.
It also encourages establishing trade areas and border economic cooperation zones, Times of India reports.

The answers to these questions provide great insights into where we, as a country, are headed in the years to come.
Swarajya is starting a project with an aim to do 50 solid ground stories and a smart commentary service on WhatsApp, a one-of-a-kind. We'd love your support during this election season.
