Attacking the vaccine makers Serum Institute of India (SII) and Bharat Biotech, the Congress party has asserted that the two private sector entities will be amassing profits as large as Rs 1,11,100 crore because of the Government's modified vaccination policy, reports Hindu Businessline.
Health Ministers from Congress-led Governments in Chhattisgarh, Punjab, Rajasthan, and Jharkhand have also slammed the vaccine makers and pushed that the vaccination policy has been drafted to suit profiteering by the two companies which are producing Covishield and Covaxin COVID-19 vaccines.
The party's general secretary in-charge of media, Randeep Singh Surjewala tried to push the allegation of profiteering against the two companies by asserting that as per its estimates, the total profits for Adar Poonawalla led SII will be as much as Rs 35,350 crore, while that for Dr Krishna Ella led Bharat Biotech will be as much as Rs 75,750 crore.
Joining the party's attack on vaccine makers, senior leader P Chidambaram said that there is a "body of opinion" that the two companies could also make a small profit by pricing their vaccines at Rs 150 per dose and that if the same is true, then the two companies will be profiteering by pricing their vaccines at Rs 400-Rs 1,000 range.

The 2024 elections might seem easy to guess, but there are some important questions that shouldn't be missed.
Do freebies still sway voters? Do people prioritise infrastructure when voting? How will Punjab vote?
The answers to these questions provide great insights into where we, as a country, are headed in the years to come.
Swarajya is starting a project with an aim to do 50 solid ground stories and a smart commentary service on WhatsApp, a one-of-a-kind. We'd love your support during this election season.
