Congress workers have been permitted to be present inside the strong room of a counting centre in Amraiwadi, Gujarat, after the party voiced fears of discrepancies during counting on Monday.
Arvindbhai Chauhan, who was pitched against BJP's Hasmukh Patel in Amraiwadi, said, "We fear tampering and hence we just want to be extremely sure until the counting begins.”
Ahmedabad collector has decided to allow four Congress workers to be present at LD Engineering College, where CCTVs would monitor the counting process. The workers will accompany the monitoring team in the strong room and will be present inside the strong room and monitor CCTV cameras 24x7.
Just two days before the Election Commission counts the votes cast in the Gujarat Assembly elections, the Congress had approached the Supreme Court praying that the poll body be directed to tally 25 per cent of all ballots in Gujarat with voter slips printed by the Voter-Verifiable Paper Audit Trail (VVPAT) machines. The apex court, however, turned down the plea, refusing to interefere in the Gujarat election.

Introducing ElectionsHQ + 50 Ground Reports Project
The 2024 elections might seem easy to guess, but there are some important questions that shouldn't be missed.
Do freebies still sway voters? Do people prioritise infrastructure when voting? How will Punjab vote?
The answers to these questions provide great insights into where we, as a country, are headed in the years to come.
Swarajya is starting a project with an aim to do 50 solid ground stories and a smart commentary service on WhatsApp, a one-of-a-kind. We'd love your support during this election season.
