The Indian Council of Medical Research (ICMR) has taken up the task to prepare mathematically modeled estimations of the worst-case and best-case scenario figures of the total number of confirmed cases of Novel Coronavirus (COVID-19) which could erupt in the months to come, reports Hindu Businessline.
The estimations for both the scenarios will be released by the nation’s apex medical research body on Tuesday (24 March). The estimations would help the ICMR and authorities to calculate the need for diagnostic test kits.
Speaking to media persons, ICMR’s head Dr Balram Bhargava also underscored that 80 per cent of persons with COVID-19 symptoms like dry cough would easily recover under home setups and that their symptoms would not worsen.
Dr Bhargava added that the rest 20 per cent of affected persons are expected to display exacerbated symptoms, and as many as five per cent of them would need hospitalisation.
Meanwhile, in another development in the nation’s all-out effort to contain the spread of COVID-19 in the nation, all the States have been asked by the Government of India to identify empty or under-utilised hospitals to prepare separate COVID-19 quarantine and isolation setups.

The 2024 elections might seem easy to guess, but there are some important questions that shouldn't be missed.
Do freebies still sway voters? Do people prioritise infrastructure when voting? How will Punjab vote?
The answers to these questions provide great insights into where we, as a country, are headed in the years to come.
Swarajya is starting a project with an aim to do 50 solid ground stories and a smart commentary service on WhatsApp, a one-of-a-kind. We'd love your support during this election season.
