Telangana State Chief Minister K Chandrashekhar Rao on Monday (Apr 6) urged Prime Minister Narendra Modi to extend the nation-wide lockdown beyond April 15, when the three week clampdown officially comes to an end.
CM KCR also recommended that the lockdown be extended for two additional weeks.
Telangana Chief Minister's Office now clarifies that CM K Chandrasekhar Rao suggested extension of lockdown for 2 more weeks (after April 15). He took a reference from BCG report which suggested lockdown in India will be good until June 3. No announcement of extension yet. pic.twitter.com/dxLb89RapT

“We can recover from the hit that the economy is taking but we can’t bring back lives of the people. Lockdown is the only weapon that India has given the weak health infrastructure that we have. I propose that the lockdown be extended by at least one or two weeks and a call on opening up can be taken after that,” Telangana Today quoted CM KCR as saying during a media interaction at Pragathi Bhavan.
“Lockdown must be continued. I said the same to Prime Minister Modi. If we unlock the lockdown now,we can not control the situation”, CM KCR has been quoted as saying.
CM KCR also referenced a BCG report which has recommended that the lockdown should continue till 3 June.
As initially announced by Prime Minister Narendra Modi last month, the nation wide lockdown is said to remain in place till 14 April.
As per official data released by the Health Ministry, Telangana has reported a total of 321 positive Covid-19 cases so far. It has recorded seven deaths.
The state has also been hit by surge in Covid-19 cases largely due to Tablighi Jamaat attendees. As per data released earlier, at least 243 patients in the state had either attended the Tablighi Jamaat event in Markaz Nizamuddin or had come in contact with someone who had.
Note: An earlier version of the article had quoted media outlets which claimed that the lockdown has been extended till 3 June. It has now been updated with the latest information.
