The Indian Council of Medical Research (ICMR) has claimed that developing a vaccine for Coronavirus vaccine will take at the very least 1.5 to 2 years, ANI has reported.
ICMR also informed that it has managed to isolate the Coronavirus in its efforts to develop a vaccine. It has a total of 11 isolates at its disposal.
Globally various medicare giants are rushing to develop a Coronavirus treatment and as per a Vox report, dozens of drugs are being tested at the very moment. The silver lining in this situation is that scientists are already learning about how the virus attacks.
Anti-viral drugs like remdesivir are currently being studied to figure out whether they would be an effective weapon against SARS-CoV-2. Remdesivir works by blocking the virus’s copying mechanism, thereby preventing it from replicating by hijacking the host’s cells.
Some of the other alternatives at hand are Protease inhibitors like lopinavir and ritonavir which block an enzyme secreted by viruses which allows them to infect other cells. These inhibitors is currently used as treatment against HIV. One of the other options is to use interferons which improve the general immune system of the host body.
The interferons though may cause worrying side-effects like inflammation, as a result of which they need to be administered in just about the right amount.

Do freebies still sway voters? Do people prioritise infrastructure when voting? How will Punjab vote?
The answers to these questions provide great insights into where we, as a country, are headed in the years to come.
Swarajya is starting a project with an aim to do 50 solid ground stories and a smart commentary service on WhatsApp, a one-of-a-kind. We'd love your support during this election season.
