In a first, on Thursday (26 March) the G20 will hold a virtual leaders' summit, which will also be attended by Prime Minister (PM) Narendra Modi, to discuss coordinated response against the Novel Coronavirus (COVID-19) pandemic and the economic challenges introduced to the world by it, reports Hindustan Times.
The development comes after the current president of the G20, the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia, called on the member nations to hold a virtual summit earlier last week. It should be noted that the official announcement of the summit to be held on the evening of Thursday (26 March) is still to be made.
Ahead of the leaders' summit, the Sherpas or the personal representatives of the heads of the Governments of the member nations will hold a virtual meeting today (25 March). India's Sherpa, the former union commerce minister Suresh Prabhu will be representing the nation in the same.
The G20 body includes the European Union, China, Australia, Canada, Japan, South Korea and the United States and India among other such major economies of the world. India is on course to assume the presidency of the body in 2022.

Introducing ElectionsHQ + 50 Ground Reports Project
The 2024 elections might seem easy to guess, but there are some important questions that shouldn't be missed.
Do freebies still sway voters? Do people prioritise infrastructure when voting? How will Punjab vote?
The answers to these questions provide great insights into where we, as a country, are headed in the years to come.
Swarajya is starting a project with an aim to do 50 solid ground stories and a smart commentary service on WhatsApp, a one-of-a-kind. We'd love your support during this election season.
