Kerala Declares Coronavirus Outbreak As ‘State Calamity’ After Confirmation Of Three Positive Cases

In an escalation of the health and security situation in the Kerala, the Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan led government has announced a state calamity as third case of Novel Coronavirus was confirmed by the authorities on Monday (3 February), reports The Hindu.
In a bid to contain the situation from worsening, the state government has placed under surveillance 2,239 travellers from China and other nations which have been affected by the virus. Of these, 2,155 have been placed in isolation at their homes, while 84 have been admitted to hospitals in various districts.
The surveillance teams of the health department of the state government is now trying to ascertain an estimate of the number of students who have returned to Kerala from Wuhan, as a number of students from Kerala pursue medical studies in Wuhan of China.
Meanwhile, the Union Government has also jumped into action to keep the situation from spreading. On the directions of Prime Minister (PM) Narendra Modi, the Government has formed a high-level Group of Ministers to review the management of the outbreak.
The novel Coronavirus which is believed to be originated from Wuhan city in China has till date killed as many as 425 people, reports Xinhua news agency.
