The Delhi Metro Rail Corporation (DMRC) is in the process of initiating a centralised online monitoring system for all its escalators and lifts, which number over 1,500 across the network. It has been reported that the central command centre would receive immediate notification in the event of a glitch taking place and the concerned station control room would be notified for the purposes of addressing the snag.
A DMRC official elaborated upon the mechanics of the system and observed that the status and fault codes which are individually available at each lift and escalator would be noted and through the matching communication protocol, taken to the respective station control room. This information would be transmitted to a central server and concerned officials would be able to access the operational status of the lifts and escalators and accordingly plan maintenance activities.
Also elaborating on the process to address technical snags, the official stated that while the method of addressing the defects would be the same, the response time would be quicker as the central command centre would process information, on snags, in real-time to the station control rooms for prompt remedial action. Escalators and lifts are key facilities for metro commuters as they allow easy and quick access to different levels at the metro stations.
